Theory of Writing

My ways of writing in some aspects have differed and stayed the same throughout my times of writing. For the assignments in school from poetry to argumentative essays, I have allowed myself to become more open to a different process of stating my opinions and creativity. Before high school, I had always known to write an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion for any type of writing I present to others. However, during my English courses in high school, I had been taught that there are specific ways for writing based on genres such as poetry and augmentations. For poetry, I was only accustomed to freestyle with rhyming words with stanzas to understand that there are other forms such as sonnets.

Furthermore, based on the argumentative essays my introductions would always have a hook whether it was an interesting fact or statement that pulls the audience into already to see my perspective on an issue. Despite writing argumentative for a while, I had developed ways  to improve my introduction by clearly providing the necessary context of the issue and to rationalize why it is this issue is important. Most importantly my thesis that concise a statement about what current research and literature say. In my writing, I would have to state a conclusion that rephrases my thesis statement in a way that emphasizes the importance of the issue.

Nevertheless, when I am supposed to write an argumentative my body paragraph always consist of a topic sentence, evidence, reasoning, and a way to transition into the next paragraph. When stating the importance of my topic sentence, I state the issue that relates to my thesis. After that, I display evidence that paraphrase, summarize, or quote the source making sure I introduce my citation and defend the credibility of the source when necessary. Lastly, I state a commentary to explain how the evidence supports my thesis and its significance for the transition into another paragraph, I would make it logical that relates to the thesis. Henceforth, I have also gone about the writing process through prewriting my ideas I want to place on paper to then edit for drafting. My ways of writing changes as I started to properly write a conclusion by rephrasing my thesis and demonstrate any long or short term implications and provide evidence. Besides assignments for school my writing has changed when it comes to texting. I would use acronyms for certain words or text as if I was having a normal conversation.  My writing has progressed when I write letters and emails to teachers to become more formal. What contributed to change some parts of my writing style is the idea of conversing with my professors or a supervisor from a job to show proper etiquette.

In my Art literacy Narrative, my style has changed when going into depth for describing my experience had impacted my artistic style. I have been accustomed to expressing my feelings through visual arts that I had difficulty writing about my experience that had led to my painting. So I had let my thoughts take control and type what ever had came in the past, as I had found myself becoming descriptive when describing my surroundings in highschool after the inauguration of President Trump. This is similar yet different from my analytical essay where I had to be clear about my interpretations of a sculpture from the baroque period. When I had worked on the first genre which that involved a playwright, I had trouble attracting a certain  audience at first. However, I wanted the play to be intended for those who felt they were pressured to lose faith in what they had surrounded themselves with. In the play I wanted to become very descriptive when addressing Saint Teresa as a character and what she has gone through despite the odds. Writing this play, I have gained more knowledge of writing acts and with word play to test Saint Teresa’s faith, hence as for the audience understanding her more.

In conclusion, my writing process has developed in some ways and would progress especially while communicating with others as good practice. Ways that my writing process can improve is to understand the practice of learning to write better by performing writing techniques to improve my skills such as proofreading. To increase my learning, I would have to find my weakness or obstacles during my writing process to see what I should improve. To make my writing more effective when it came to the analytical essay and two genres was to place more focus on the audience.
